Abstract

ust 1970 from Dean Stahmer to Mr. Stephen Stackpole of the Carnegie Corporation when he was trying to obtain Carnegie support for the program. Since that letter was written, the exchange program to help identify and en courage pre-professional and pre-graduate students has been put into operation?and it works. It now has become a state-funded summer program for minority students who, having already graduated from their own colleges, want to test themselves in a graduate level atmosphere before they commit themselves to fur ther study. Last year fourteen of the thirty-one students who came to UF for this program were admitted to the graduate school of their choice. Educators in Florida can, with pride and confidence, urge that other states use their experiment in experience as a model. All of its participants?students and staff, in stitutions and state?have benefited from the program.
