Abstract
This article describes the Teacher Fellows Program, a unique school/university partnership that provides mentoring and induction at the graduate level. The program addresses first-year teacher needs based on a no-additional-cost exchange of resources between the university and partner school districts. Data collected on teacher retention rates, participants' reflections, school district evaluations, and on-going collaborations are discussed. An analysis of the data suggests that the Teacher Fellows Program benefits the various participants in the following ways: (a) the university gains additional teaching resources; (b) participating school districts become collaborative partners in the teacher preparation program; (c) first-year teachers have intensive support in their induction year and earn a Masters Degree in education; (d) master teachers participate in professional development and renewal experiences; and (e) university faculty see firsthand the complexities of today's classrooms. How can I get students to work independently without constantly reminding them? There's just no time for ME! Keeping children's attention and getting them to stay on task is a challenge. I feel overwhelmed by all of the paperwork I have to do!
