Abstract

This paper presents a method of transport of time division multiplexed (TDM) traffic over Ethernet passive optical networks (EPON). The TDM over EPON approach attempts to support voice and leased line services over efficient Ethernet networks while maintaining the reliability and quality of service (QoS) of the existing public switched telephone network (PSTN). This paper analyzes the performance of TOM over EPON and VoiP in terms of packet efficiency and latency. The analysis results show that the performance of the proposed method closely approximates to those of PSTN.
