Abstract

TCP-friendly assured forwarding (AF) video service provisioning in DiffServ (differentiated service) networks is investigated in this research. TCP and TFRC are the two main transport protocols adopted to realize the AF service, where traditional alphanumeric data are transmitted via AF-TCP for reliable delivery and multimedia applications are transmitted via AF-TFRC for smooth delivery. The quality of services (QoS) is simplified to contain only two levels of bandwidth consumption, i.e. the AF and BE classes. They are realized by the RIO queue in edge and core elements. We analyze the service assurance of AF-TCP and AF-TFRC services mathematically, and verify derived theoretical results with numerical simulation.
