Abstract

Current era of technology has included variety of things like applications based on video transmission, big data analytics, and Internet of things (IoT). To provide a strong platform for these technologies, higher transmission capacity and huge bandwidth is required for high-speed networks. Keeping in the view of above, we have proposed a TCP variant known as TCP Expo for high-speed networks and emerging application scenarios. Current congestion window (cwnd new), congestion window at which loss has occurred (cwnd old) and average of both (mid) are three new parameters introduced in TCP Expo. Working of proposed scheme is divided into two phases known as slow start and congestion avoidance. Performance analysis of TCP Expo has examined under high congestion situation, where packet loss is checked by comparing cwnd new and cwnd old value. This shows the ability of proposed scheme to quickly recover the value of cwnd and ssthresh after a packet loss. Simulations and comparison with existing variants have been carried out by using the network simulator (ns-2). TCP Expo outperformed other TCP variants by 10 % to 740 % in terms of throughput.
