Abstract

AbstractTraditional Chinese medicine (TCM) preparations have been used clinically in China for hundreds of years. However, the quality and safety of TCM preparations cause a great deal of concern around the world, restricting the widespread application and popularization of TCM preparations. Adulteration, substitution, mislabeling, and other Chinese medicine issues have become the focus of global attention due to the demonstrated efficacy of some authentic Chinese medicines. Authenticity and reliability of TCM production must be ensured in a verifiable manner. Accurate and rapid source tracking and identification of TCM preparations (including pills, powders, capsules, and tablets), manufacturers, or batches are critical for both producers and consumers. DNA barcoding has been used in numerous research to track down Chinese medicinal ingredients (Aghayeva et al. 2021), although there are few types of research on the traceability of Chinese medicinal preparations. Currently, there are few studies on the source tracking of TCM preparations, thus additional study is required.
