Abstract

Reproductive health education should focus on developing students' problem-solving competence through real-life situations. This study was conducted to determine the integrated address, build the topics of integrated reproductive health education in the chapter “Reproduction” - Biology 11, from which to evaluate the effectiveness of improving the problem-solving competence among students in Tra Vinh province. A intervention study was conducted on 160 students (17 years old) of two high schools in Tra Vinh province. Rubric was used to assess the problem-solving competence of learners. Two integrating reproductive health education topics were built in chapter “Reproduction”, forming and developing problem-solving competence for students. From the knowledge and skills related to reproductive health that students acquired through the two topics, the abilities to learn and detect problems; collect and analyze information, find knowledge related to the problem; make a plan to implement the solution; propose and select solutions; implement solutions; evaluate and adjust the solution; applied in situations related to reproductive health of students were developed. Scores for each criterion of problem-solving competence of students in the experimental class were significantly higher than those in the control class (P < 0.05) in each case exercise, as well as after finishing the two topics. Thus, integrating reproductive health education through two designed topics has improved the problem-solving competence of grade 11 students in Tra Vinh province.
