Abstract

We report a case of a 6-year boy presenting with abdominal pain and a culture proven to be recurrent urinary tract infections. His hemoglobin and kidney function tests were normal. Tc-99m dimercaptosuccinic acid renal scan demonstrated fusion of the upper poles of the kidneys with a functional isthmus and no parenchymal scar. Tc-99m diethylenetriamine pentaacetic acid with diuresis also showed upper pole fusion with no obstruction. The present case highlights the use of functional renal imaging in detecting a congenital anomaly of a horseshoe kidney with upper pole fusion (reverse horseshoe kidney).
