Abstract
This chapter examines how Taylor moves beyond critical approaches that are inspired by the work of Karl Marx. A number of critics have argued that Taylor’s framework is unable to create environmental and social change. These criticisms overlook how he has moved from a humanist Marxist perspective to an interpretivist framework. His inter–pretivism questions the idea that social change can be created by revolutionary vanguard parties. Taylor’s framework recognises the inescapable political difficulties in creating change and offers an approach which sets out some necessary preconditions for its creation.
