Abstract

In this paper we propose a taxonomy for classifying disparate research efforts in Ubiquitous Computing environments. The proposed taxonomy classifies Ubiquitous Computing environments into two major categories; Interactive Environments and Smart Environments. The taxonomy categorises all Ubiquitous Computing environments that facilitate Computer-Supported Group Work into Interactive Environments. Nevertheless, it categorises Ubiquitous Computing environments that facilitate an individuals' daily operations into Smart Environments. We believe the proposed taxonomy is useful to researchers in Ubiquitous Computing for positioning as well as benchmarking research with existing Ubiquitous Computing environments.
