Abstract

Taxonomic relationships were determined by comparing isozyme frequencies in 7 strains of Amoeba proteus , the only known strain of Amoeba indica and the 2 reciprocal hybrids produced by nuclear transfer between A. proteus and A. indica . Although there was considerable heterogeneity between these 10 strains, the data indicate that all these strains belong to the proteus species and that A. indica is not a taxonomically valid name.
