Abstract

This paper discusses three studies concerned with the relationship between taxation and work. Some doubt is cast on the value of small-scale studies and those that only consider the short term. The main reservation is that all three studies neglect the influence of tax changes on the demand-side of the market. As an example of a broader approach to the problem, the recent proposals of the Netherlands Scientific Council for Government Policy are described and discussed.
