Abstract

It is shown that a \ensuremath{\tau}-dependent compression of energy levels occurs in most SO(6)-like nuclei, where \ensuremath{\tau} is the SO(5) quantum number. We suggest that this compression represents a generalization of the Coriolis antipairing effect to symmetries other than SU(3), and that it is effectively described by an SO(6)-plus-pairing model.
