Abstract
The spread and consolidation of comments on Qur’an (tafsir) in specific historical conditions has influenced and continues to exert a strong influence on the development of the spiritual culture of the peoples of the Arab-Muslim world, including the peoples of the Volga and Ural regions of Russisa. The propose of the article is to consider the unique spiritual phenomenon of Arab-Muslim civilization and the special genre of Islamic theological literature, tafsirs in the context of the historical features of the described period among the Tatars. Two works from the heritage of the Turkic-Tatar tafsirs of the late 19–early 20th centuries are investigated: ‘Tafsir Nu‘mani’ by Nu‘man bin Sabit as-Samani and ‘Tafsir Fawa’id’ by Muhammad-Zarif Amirkhan’. The leading method to the study of this problem is the method of textological analysis, which allowed to establish authoritative Arab-Muslim sources to which the tafsir authors referred.
