Abstract
The Historical Peninsula of Istanbul, which has thousands of years of cultural heritage, faces the danger of adding a new one to various destructions it was exposed to with the increase of its population throughout its history. A reconstruction project was prepared in 1990 to preserve the city, which has a rich cultural heritage in terms of historic fabric and works of archaeology. In this study, the new status of the ruins in the historical peninsula and the Protection Plan which was changed in 1990 were discussed including the negative aspects of this plan.
