Abstract

The development of targets and the effects of target choice to experiments performed with intermediate energy heavy-ions are discussed, taking examples from investigations in nuclear physics at the accelerator facilities at RIKEN. Problems concerning the target properties in atomic physics experiments with low energy heavy-ion beams are also described.
