Abstract

Intense beam experiments with a high specific deposition power can already be performed using the RFQ accelerator. With such a beam we succeeded for the first time to produce a heavy ion induced plasma. Due to the high deposition power of the beam we had to employ special target techniques using different kinds of gas targets and a cryogenic target. In another experiment, the interaction of heavy ions with a hydrogen discharge plasma was studied. The properties of some targets used in intense beam experiments to study beam plasma interaction processes are discussed and the targets are presented.
