Abstract

Allegations that authorities in Alabama are unfairly singling out methadone patients have become top of mind for an opioid treatment program (OTP) owner in the state. The issue hit particularly close to home last month for Susan Staats‐Combs, M.Ed., owner of Shelby County Treatment Center, as positive methadone tests for one of her employees and the woman's newborn triggered a hospital's report to the state and a home visit from the state Department of Human Resources (DHR).
