Abstract

Studies have shown that microbes found in a contaminated environment, especially contamination of high touch items, can be a factor in healthcare associated infections. The current trends to decrease the number of employees but ask for rapid patient room turnover to relieve Emergency Department congestion, can lead to the misperception that a patient room clean to the naked eye is adequately clean. During an MDRO outbreak in 2009 we identified improperly disinfected touch items in patient rooms.
