Abstract

Purpose: Osteoarthritis (OA) is a prevalent and chronic degenerative joint disease which causes pain and disability, with no disease-modifying treatment. Cartilage degeneration and bone remodeling are key characteristics of OA. The pathogenesis of OA is a complex mechanism. G protein-coupled receptors (GPCR) are important regulators of chondrocytes and osteoblasts. While G protein receptor kinase-2 (GRK2) signaling plays an important pathological role in many diseases, its role in cartilage degeneration and subchondral bone sclerosis in OA remains unknown.
