Abstract

Some years ago when the L-Dopa dramatically reduced the number of Operations for Parkinsons’ disease, Nicholas Zervas wrote in a letter “stereotaxis is at a dead end in this country” (the U.S.). At that time, many colleagues all over the world not only shared this pessimistic evaluation but were inclined to think that the era of stereotactic surgery as such was over, and that societies for stereotactic and functional neurosurgery continued to exist essentially because of intellectual inertia.
