Abstract

The continuum spectra near the target breakup thresholds of the 6 Li→ α+ d and 7 Li→α+ t fs processes in the 6,7Li(p, p') reactions have been studied with 65 and 80 MeV polarized proton beams. The cross sections and analyzing powers of the continuum spectra in the threshold energy region, where the breakup αd or αt pair is in small relative energy, have been measured. A marked difference in shape of the continuum spectra near breakup thresholds has been observed for the 6Li(p, p') and 7Li(p, p') reactions, and is explained in terms of the partial wave relevant to the breakup processes of 6Li and 7Li. We found that the cross section of the continuum decreases rapidly at forward angles. The cross section has been analyzed in the framework of the α+p quasifree scattering. We fail to describe the rapid decrease of the continuum cross section at forward angles, though the shape of the angular distribution at backward angles has been fairly well reproduced. This may suggest that the quasifree scattering is strongly influenced by the final-state interaction effect between a recoil particle and a spectator under the condition of the small relative energy at forward angles.
