Abstract
The 1s 2→1s2s, 1s 2→1s2p, 1s 2→1s3s and 1s 2→1s3p excitation cross sections of 400 MeV Fe 24+ ions impinging on target atoms have been calculated in the distortion approximation. The calculated results indicate that the cross section tends to approach to a constant value with increasing target atomic number. The present results are in good agreement with experimental results as well as other theoretical models.
