Abstract

In vivo, comparative data on the responses of the chorioidal tapetal pigment of a variety of elasmobranchs from different habitats and with different habits have been obtained. Two members of the family Scyliorhinidae had non-responsive pigment cells. All other species tested had occlusible tapeta. Exposure in darkness took 30–60 min to complete, while occlusion in light took 60–90 min.
