Abstract

The effects of NH 4NO 3, some amino acids (glutamine, glycine and serine) and casein hydrolysate on the growth and tannin production of Sapium sebiferum callus grown in the light (16 hr photoperiod) or dark were determined. A large amount of geraniin was produced in callus cultured on Murashige—Skoog medium without NH 4NO 3. The addition of amino acids with some combinations of 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid and benzyladenine (BA) to the medium increased the production of geraniin. Addition of casein hydrolysate with BA and kinetin enhanced geraniin production, especially in the light.
