Abstract

A root culture of Sanguisorba officinalis was established and analysed for the production of eight tannins. The Murashige-Skoog medium was the best for both root growth and tannin production. While addition of naphthalene acetic acid (1 mgl−1 improved the yield of tannin, similar addition of gibberellic acid did not enhance tannin production.
