Abstract

AbstractLongitudinal velocity measurements of Tanner‐Whitehouse (TW) and Greulich‐Pyle (GP) skeletal ages have been determined for 233 Hong Kong Chinese orphanage children. When skeletal age is compared to chronological age (CA) the resulting ratio TW/CA or GP/CA has been titled a Tanner. Tanner values range from 0.74 to 1.26 for the GP/CA calculations and from 0.73 to 1.45 for the TW/CA calculations. The mean Tanner value was much higher for TW velocities (X = 1.19). Age to age variability in velocity is large by either system and generally girls vary more than boys.
