Abstract

To make clear hydrodynamic characteristics of Surface Effect Ship (SES) bow seals, comparative model tests were conducted in calm water and in irregular waves on 12 bow seal models whose types were 4 basically, namely finger seal, bag and finger seal, planing seal and transversely supported membrane (TSM) seal.As the result of tests, it was found that the drag characteristics of the tested seal models were almost identical and lift forces acting on planing seals were greater than those on other types of seals slightly.
