Abstract

: Fifteen breast cancer patients were prospectively evaluated by ultrasound in all cases and by curettage of the endometrium in 6 cases before tamoxifen therapy and again after 12 and 24 months of treatment. The previously atrophic endometrium became proliferative in 7 cases and in 2 cases endometrial polyps were detected. A control group of 15 women without breast cancer were also prospectively evaluated by ultrasound in all cases and by curettage of the endometrium in 4 cases at the start of the study and again after 24 months. The initially atrophic endometrium became proliferative in 2 cases. A high significant difference was revealed (p < 0.05) in the comparison of the two groups concerning endometrium alterations during the two years of follow-up.
