Abstract

Abstract Current models of integral membrane proteins are based on α-helices 22 or more residues in length, long enough to span the phospholipid bilayer. For proteins that contain many such potential α-helices the assumption of a minimum length is incorrect; I suggest alternative models for the structure of membrane transport proteins.
