Abstract

PURPOSE: This IRB-approved qualitative study will explore individual pain experiences and current communication practices of older women treated for breast cancer. As breast cancer is now the most predominant form of cancer worldwide, and the majority of its victims are age 65 or older, measures to optimize pain management are of the utmost importance. This study aims to apply the conceptual framework of self-advocacy in women with cancer in this population to identify barriers to optimal pain management, including opioid stigma.
