Abstract
This practical indexed and illustrated handbook grew out of 2 workshops held by the Family Planning Association of Kenya and the Family Planning Council of Nigeria. It covers the fieldworkers job knowing the audience and talking with clients. Examples are given of ways to open conversations and to give family planning information without offending a sense of privacy. Chapters also cover dealing with other social service agencies (including the family planning fieldworker as counsellor) working within the total family planning framework and evaluation. 1 chapter covers choosing and making audio-visual aids. Recruitment of fieldworkers training of fieldworkers and managing the program are covered. It is suggested that fieldworkers come from audiences they are expected to reach. This way the nuances of the culture will be second nature. Training should be practical with opportunities for role-playing and actual practice. Incentives should include follow-up of former acceptors as well as getting new ones.
