Abstract
Kolkata, located in the eastern part of India, is considered to have the largest concentration of sex-workers, residing either in multi-storey brothels or working as flying sex-workers. There is large number of studies on sex-workers, but they mostly concentrate on their reasons to enter into sex-work, HIV vulnerability, and its prevention programs and so on. A scarce literature is found on emotional upheaval and social marginalization faced by a sex-worker, especially when she is the victim of sex-trafficking. Thus, this study not only aims to portray the lived experiences of hurt, anguish, violence and coercion faced by the sex-workers but also how they have been able to retrieve the moments of strength and recast their experiences using the path of forgiveness.
