Abstract

1. The effective stress concentration factors in static tension and compression of the glass-reinforced plastics and also in multicycle loading of these materials with any value of the cycle asymmetry factor are a factor of two-four lower than the theoretical factors calculated for the elastic medium. 2. The normal stress concentration factors obtained on the basis of fatigue tests with sign-constant cycles with an error of up to 10% correspond to those obtained in static loading with identical types of deformation. 3. The stress concentration factors for the sign-alternating load cycles can be calculated from the results of the static tension and compression tests. 4. The effect of the stress factors on the endurance limits of the glass-reinforced plastics can be taken into account, with accuracy sufficient for practice, on the basis of the results of fatigue tests on the smooth specimens and specimens with stress raisers in static tension and compression.
