Abstract

Study Objective To present common pitfalls that can occur when using monopolar devices and recommendations for avoiding inadvertent patient injury and maximizing efficiency. These pitfalls include: Incorrect placement of dispersive electrode Inappropriate power settings and current waveforms Current leakage Inadvertent contact Direct coupling Stray current Eschar accumulation Narrow return circuit Decreased current density Insufficient tension Wet field Design Video Demonstration. Conclusion Monopolar devices, such as the laparoscopic L-hook and scissors, are commonly used in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery and play a crucial role in many procedures. There are several important pitfalls to consider when using monopolar devices to maximize safety and efficiency.
