Abstract

For any parent in surgery, juggling a career and a family is a challenge. Parental leave can be an adventure: how to raise a healthy happy baby. However, as return to work looms, the pull of re-engaging in your own learning increases as well as, frankly, the desire to not be completely out of your depth on your first day back. With this in mind, as a breastfeeding mother, I attended an orthopaedic conference with my baby – I was assured this would be 'fine'. It was not. What followed was a steep learning curve for me and for the institution.
