Abstract

Abstract In April 2009 Taiwan finally received an invitation from the World Health Organization (WHO) to attend the 62nd World Health Assembly (WHA) in Geneva as an observer. This study examines the background of Taiwan's campaign to participate in the WHO since 1997, reviews the “facilitator” role of the United States, and considers the People's Republic of China's posture concerning Taiwan's participation in the organization.
