Abstract

Roger Schroeder's first passion was to be a park ranger. “I was one of those low percentage of people who never change their major in college because I always knew what I wanted to do,” Schroeder said. When Schroeder began looking for jobs as a park ranger, he was guided in the direction of law enforcement to gain a leg up on his competition. After spending a summer as a ranger in the Badlands, Schroeder found an opening as a campus security officer at Humboldt State University, a position from which he retired in 2010. That location combined his newfound passion for law enforcement with the natural beauty of the Redwood forests of Northern California.
