Abstract
The grinding process is one of the most common finishing operations. With the trend towards increased production rates, demands on coated abrasive belts are becoming increasingly severe. Experimental investigations are to be made to know the effects of the process parameters on the performance of the surface belt grinding process. In this work, belt-grinding technology is used. It is very important to apply the right backing material for the coated abrasive belts in order to reduce the tangible costs as well as intangible costs which can result in decreased productivity and to have the right rate of material removal, dimension, and finish in an acceptable period of time. In the present work the Taguchi's experimental design method is used for performing the belt grinding process on the stainless steel 304 and optimising the process parameters. Thus, this research aims at right choice of backing materials for the coated abrasive belts.
