Abstract

Oxycodone is a semisynthetic opioid prescribed for moderate to severe pain. Recently, addiction to prescribed opioids has been tragic. Better treatment for opioid addiction is needed. To elucidate the neurobiological underpinnings of addiction to opioid drugs, we have used the model of oxycodone self-administration (SA) in rats. In the present study, we investigated the potential role of growth factors in oxycodone SA and withdrawal.
