Abstract

Bile duct diverticula historically have been classified as Type II choledochal cysts, an uncommon variety. Type II choledochal cysts are typically described as 1-3cm in diameter, arising from the common bile duct near the cystic duct and associated with an anomalous pancreatico-biliary duct junction. Management generally involves surgical resection because of their increased malignant potential. We have also observed, however, patients with small (<1cm) choledochal diverticula just proximal to the ampulla.
