Abstract

Objectives Describing different treatments of sexual addiction disorder. The hallmarks of compulsive sexual behaviour (CSB) can be recurrent and intense sexually arousing fantasies, sexual urges and behaviours that cause individuals distress in daily functioning. Clinical signs of CSB can include anxiety, depression, somatic complaints, alcohol or drug use and dependency, relationship problems or signs of abuse. Method The Analysis of different kind of studies about sexual addiction disorder shows that CSB is best treated with combinations of pharmaco and psychotherapy. Results CSB's psychotherapy explores psychodynamic and environmental stressors which may be fuelling this condition. Psychological tools are provided to better manage patient's stress, anxiety and depression, which can trigger the compulsive behaviour. Conductioning group therapies provides learning supplies emerging from patient's similar problems. Group therapy helps patient overcome feelings of shame and isolation and provides a laboratory for learning about intimate relationships. Conclusions There is much more to learn about the nature of methods of treatment. Psychotherapy, cognitive-behavioural therapy and other psychological approaches can be extremely helpful. As reported in CNS Spectrums, fluoxetine (Prozac) is thought to be helpful, others options include anti-anxiety buspirone (BuSpar) and naltrexone.
