Abstract
In the recent years many researches established a relation between marital functioning and many psychopathologies. A relation has been established for instance for depression, anxiety disorders and alcoholism. The goal of the present research is to study the link between pathological gambling and the marital and sexual functioning. Eighty couples in which man or woman presents a problem with pathological gambling were assessed and compared to forty couples without problem of pathological gambling. Couples were assessed with measures of marital and sexual functioning as well as measure of depression, anxiety and psychological distress. Results indicate that pathological gambling is related to many aspects of marital and sexual functioning. Differences were also founded on measures of psychological functioning. This research suggests a link between marital and sexual functioning and gambling. As for others psychopathologies such as depression or alcoholism (which shares many similarities with pathological gambling), this could guide to the development of marital intervention as an aspect of the treatment of this serious psychological problem.
