Abstract

Sexuality is intensely present in Greek myths, narrated in many stories, sometimes in direct or very often in indirect speech using either a frank and straight-forward language or an evocative and metaphorical one. The Romans, like the Greeks, consider sexuality as an important and central theme. It is expressed in variegated and multifaceted ways. In order to understand sex and sexuality Classical Authors describe different mythological figures and different love relationships. Among the many relationships written by the Authors, there are happy and unlucky stories and mutual and unilateral ones. There are the legends of Orpheus and Eurydice, Kephalos and Procris, Eros and Psyche as well as the unfortunate love between Apollo and Daphne. The stories of the mythological relations are beautiful for the charm that they have always brought out and continue to have today. They are, moreover, interesting for the message that they can offer to the lovers of every time.
