Abstract

A previously healthy 52-year-old woman who was gasping for air was brought to the emergency department. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation was initiated immediately, and the patient was simultaneously intubated. The ECG monitor showed Torsade de Pointes, which was cardioverted with direct current shock. An intravenous bolus of magnesium sulfate was also given immediately. Postcardioversion, her blood pressure was 102/62 mm Hg, pulse rate was 84 beats/min, and SaO2 was 98%. The systemic examination was unremarkable.
