Abstract

Extremely intense triplet-triplet absorption spectra have been observed for a series of aryl substituted triphenylenes and phenanthrenes. These transitions are a result of excited state resonance interactions within the triplet manifold. Polarization measurements confirm that the linear polyphenyl-like states in these molecules are responsible for these strong transitions.
