Abstract

Before discussing the solution of systems of linear first-order constant coefficient ordinary differential equations it is necessary to develop the basic theory concerning the differentiation and integration of matrices whose elements are functions of a real variable. For the sake of completeness, the differentiation and integration of quite general matrices will be considered first, though only the simplest of these properties will be used when systems of ordinary constant coefficient differential equations are considered.
