Abstract

This excellent symposium on diverse aspects of the deep or systemic mycoses is the product of a meeting by a group of the world's foremost mycologists in Ibadan, Nigeria, in March 1967. The 13 papers, grouped under general headings of pathology, clinical aspects, epidemiology, and therapy, include detailed discussions by the participants which follow each paper and conclude each section of the book. Although occasionally too long and tedious, the discussions will reward the patient reader with his share of "pearls." Mycoses prevalent in Africa, appropriately enough, receive special emphasis. No comparable source on the clinical and laboratory findings in African histoplasmosis is readily accessible elsewhere. The papers on mycetoma and phycomycosis also merit attention.
