Abstract

Bayer 31757 (4-ehloro-2-nitro-4-(trifluoromethyl)-diphenylamine), Bayer 30749 ( O -ethyl O -( p -ethylsulfinylphenyl) methylphosphonothioate), Gen. Chem. 3583 (2-chloro-1-(2,5-diehlorophenyl) diethyl phosphate), and Gen. Chem. 4072 (2-chloro-l-(2,4-dichlorophenyl)vinyl diethyl phosphate) applied to the foliage of cotton plants at. 4 pounds technical per acre were quite effective in controlling boll weevil ( Anthonomus grandis Boheman) larvae in infested cotton squares. However, these materials were not highly effective against natural infestations of boll weevil adults or the bollworm, Heliothis zea (Boddie). Several organophosphates were effective against the spider mite, Tetranychus cinnabarinus (Boisduval), for 5 to 7 weeks after application to the foliage or to the soil surrounding cotton plants.
