Abstract

A systematized active power control scheme has been proposed in this paper to address the most crucial wind specific control functions of permanent magnet synchronous generator based wind-driven generator. The control strategies are targeted to reform the conventional control scheme of the back–back voltage source converters evading additional chopper circuit, dual current control, and compensation loops. Primarily, the torsional mode oscillation damping control is actively incorporated with the dc-link voltage control loop of the machine-side converter. Simultaneously, power regulation associated to fault ride through compliance and oscillation damping pertaining to grid disturbances are amended on grid-side converter active power control loop. The proposed control schemes were studied using PSCAD/EMTDC simulations and the results proved to have better consistency over the conventional schemes under different operating conditions.
